It’s not always easy to enjoy a bite to eat or a drink with your canine sidekick in tow as so many venues don’t allow dogs on the premises. Our pet pooches can often get left at home in which case, or you have to forgo a little re-fuelling when taking them out on the lead.
But Sutton Harbour has plenty of places to go to for a quick drink or a three-course meal which are also very dog-friendly. Here’s some of the restaurants and pubs that will not only welcome you, but your furry friend too.
Rockfish is directly next to the National Marine Aquarium and offers eat-in and takeaway seafood, plus it’s the perfect spot to watch the boats come into the marina. With inside seating for 120 and an outside area with the capacity of 100, Rockfish welcome humans and dogs alike.
Located on the borders of Vauxhall Street and Exchange Street in Jamaica House, Boston Tea Party can seat 150 inside across two floors as well as offering a beautiful terrace area that looks out over the harbour. The kind folk at BTP allow dogs both inside and out, and encourage you to ask for a spot of water for your furry friend while you enjoy a shot of coffee or a full cooked breakfast.
Rockets and Rascals is a unique café that offers a variety of breakfast and lunch goodies including peanut butter, banana and honey on toast, Belgium waffles and cheese and chorizo toasties. It doubles as a bike emporium offering servicing and bike hire. It’s a great place to bring your own little rascal; they just ask for them to be kept on a lead.
Located on one of the oldest streets in Plymouth, the Tudor Rose Teahouse and Gardens on New Street, offers a variety of cakes and coffees, perfect for refuelling on a walk along the harbour. Every morning starts with baking scones, cakes and other tasty treats. They also offer breakfast and a traditional Sunday roast.
If it’s pizza night for you then The Stable is the perfect port of call for you and your pup. Just around the corner from Boston Tea Party, the venue offers a wide selection of freshly cooked pizzas, salads and pies, not to mention boasting a vegan menu and special offers like the fabulous Tuck in Tuesdays deal.
Monty’s Café serves breakfast, fresh local food and might also serve your dog a biscuit or two. Located in the historic Barbican Quarter of Sutton Harbour, this café is a perfect stop on an early morning or afternoon walk for a spot of coffee and slice of cake. Dogs are welcome in the front part of the café.
If you’re in the mood for a cheeky pint or some pub grub then there are plenty of pubs that are more than happy for your canine to tag along. The Navy Inn on Quay Square might even offer a little treat for them to nibble on while you enjoy your own meal. Other pubs in Sutton Harbour that are happy to host your dogs are The Admiral McBride which serves traditional pub food accompanied with real ales, wine and cider. The Crown and Anchor, another great haunt located on the Barbican, opposite The Harbour restaurant. And The Maritime Inn on Southside Street is another option for classic pub grub with a pint or two.
