This time of year can be overshadowed by present buying conundrums and the challenge of keeping the extended family happy. We sometimes forget to take a moment, relax and enjoy this merry season. Sitting by the fire watching Christmas films, wearing tacky festive jumpers to work and maybe a bit of overindulgence in the mulled wine and mince pies. All easy ways to make the most of this time of year and here at Sutton Harbour, we want you to revel in everything about the holidays and make the most of the festive season. Here’s how to do it.
Have an evening filled with fun, laughter, and most importantly, wine! Get together with friends and family to celebrate the holiday season. One of this year’s new venues in Sutton Harbour was HonkyTonk Wine Library, located on North East Quay, and has proved to be a hit among locals and visitors for its delicious deli food and exquisite wine, all of which have a story behind them. Cosy up in the snug or relax in their newly-refurbished lounge and deli.
Of course, HonkyTonk isn’t the only place you can enjoy some mulled wine, or any other beverage for that matter, the harbour is full of quality pubs and restaurants that will serve up a glass full of festive cheer. And if you’re lucky, you might find yourself underneath the mistletoe with a special someone.
Sutton Harbour is home to some of the best food in Plymouth. Don’t believe us? Try our amazing restaurants and cafes for yourself, by booking a Christmas dinner or party at one of the venues along the harbour. Whether it’s for a works do, a gathering of friends or a romantic dinner for two, most of our restaurants have their special Christmas menus ready and waiting.
At Miller & Carter Steakhouse, not only are they offering a selection of succulent steaks, they’re also serving up a traditional turkey roast with all the trimmings, plus vegan and vegetarian options.
The Stable also have their festive menu on the go, with pizzas including Mistletoe Kiss, The Turkey Gobbler and Very Merry Melody, as well as a selection of festive starters, pies and puddings.
If you’re thinking of a Christmas party with a twist, why not take a trip on a Christmas Cruise along Plymouth Sound with a live DJ and a bar full of drinks? Book your own party or join the Christmas Cruise on Saturday 15th December. Strictly over 18s only.
Indulge in all the tasty sweets and treats you can find in the cafés along the harbour – many of them offering special Christmas deals at the moment. And what better way to celebrate the holidays than with cake? This is Daisy’s Tea Rooms and Coffee Shop’s first Christmas in Sutton Harbour and they have some delicious, home-made cakes all wrapped up in a box waiting for you. Stop off at Boston Tea Party for a hot drink that you can try with some tasty treats, or enjoy the view of the marina while getting a coffee and cake combo from Alfresco! located opposite the Mayflower Steps.
You might not enjoy the stress of thinking of a present idea, finding and buying it but it is, after all, the season of giving. If you are really struggling for what to get and looking for something that you just can’t find on the high street, then come to Sutton Harbour and take a look in some of our gift shops and galleries. In and around Sutton Harbour, there is a huge variety of independent shops with unique and quirky items that are guaranteed to make your special someone smile.
The harbour might not be covered in snow but it is still incredibly beautiful at this time of year and a wonderful place for a winters walk at any time of day, or to round off a spectacular night out.
Look out to sea from the Mayflower Steps before strolling along the cobbled streets taking in the view of the marina. Plus, you can explore the harbour while searching for the Polar Bear cubs hiding in some of our restaurants and cafés. The harbour is the perfect place for a relaxing evening walk with the family or your other half, before cosying up in your reindeer pyjamas with the fire burning.
From everyone at Sutton Harbour, we hope you have a magical Christmas and spectacular New Year.
