The spooky season is upon us so we’d better start stashing our sweets, carving our pumpkins and planning our scary costumes. Plymouth has an exciting events calendar all year round but there are plenty of spectacularly spooky treats to enjoy this Halloween season in and around Sutton Harbour and the adjacent Barbican.
Here are five of the top Halloween events happening in Plymouth’s historic quarter which will no doubt bring all manner of creepy creatures and ghostly ghouls to the waterfront of Britain’s Ocean City.
During October half term you can explore the harbour in search for Boo’s ghostly crew. The ship was once caught in a storm and all crew members went missing, now the ghostly pirates come to Sutton Harbour every Halloween scaring locals and searching for treasure. Pick up a map from the Tourist Information Centre and search the harbour for all 12 wanted posters of the ghostly crew and return the completed map for a trick or treat.
The free trail will run from Monday 21st – Sunday 27th October. The Tourist Information Centre is open 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays.

Celebrate with the whole family at the National Marine Aquarium on Saturday 26th October. The NMA’s Family Fright Night has proved incredibly popular in previous years and we can see why – it includes a frightening Fright Night zones, trick or treating, arts and crafts and a spooktacular show.
Don’t forget to dress to impress as the person with the best Halloween costume will received a special prize. The event starts at 6pm, adult’s tickets are £7, kids tickets are £13 and under 3’s go free.

Enjoy a haunting Halloween cruise with Plymouth Boat Trips, offering scarily good music with all your party favourites on Saturday 26th October.
For the kids, the boat leaves at 5pm and includes a disco, themed games and a trick or treat treasure chest. There’s also a prize up for grabs for the best fancy dress. The cruise finishes at 6.30pm, and tickets are £6 for children, £10 for adults and £28 for families.
For the adults, the cruise will start at 7.30pm with a whole host of party tunes to get you into the Halloween spirit. Tickets include a free drink, more information can be found on the Plymouth Boat Trips website or their Facebook page.
This Halloween, party the night away at the recently rebranded venue Quayside, formerly known as Café Fandom, which is located opposite Sutton Harbour Marina. On Thursday 31st October, 5pm-7pm, there will be a mini monster ball for the kids to enjoy and nibbles on offer. For the grown-ups, there will be a party 8-late with a bar, quiz and hog roast for vegan chilli.
Kid’s tickets are £5. Adult party tickets are £12 and include the hog roast or chilli and a drink on arrival.
Continue the Halloween celebrations on Friday 1st November at Boston Tea Party, with live music from The Busketeers, Robin Evans and another act yet to be confirmed.
Fancy dress is encouraged – and will be rewarded! Boston Tea Party are even offering a 10% discount for ticket holders ordering food before 7pm.
