Mother’s Day is fast approaching and year-on-year it can get increasingly more difficult to think of ways to show your mother, or mother figure, how much they mean to you.
Perhaps your mum is incredibly hard to buy for, or maybe you don’t have the funds you need to give her something you think she truly deserves. But it doesn’t have to be all about lavish gifts or expensive trips; we think the best gift is quality time.
The waterfront is the idyllic location to spend the day with your mum this Mothering Sunday. The harbour boasts a range of venues and eateries which will guarantee something for everyone – but specifically mum, of course.
Here are some suggestions of places to go to make this Mother’s Day memorable:
Sutton Harbour is known as one of the best places to go for a lunchtime or afternoon meal. If mum’s a lover of tea and delicious foods, then this is the right places to visit.
Daisy’s Tea Rooms and Coffee Shop offers a build-your-own afternoon tea, where mum can pick exactly what she wants. At Daisy’s your mum will also be treated to a free pot of tea or cup of coffee and the option to add a sparkle to her afternoon tea to include a glass of fizz. The café’s Mother’s Day vouchers start at £10 for 1 or £18 for 2 people, with the prosecco afternoon tea at £12.50 for 1 person or £23 for 2.
Another popular venue along the harbour is Boston Tea Party. This café chain has been named the most ethical café in Britain and is famous for its healthy foods and thirst-quenching drinks. For breakfast and brunch served all day, their extensive menu is bound to having something perfect for mum.
Dining out in Sutton Harbour could be a simple but lovely way to spend some time with your mother. Miller and Carter Steakhouse is located at Sutton Warf and offers succulent steaks and delicious desserts. This restaurant has a beautiful view of the marina and has a special Mother’s Day offer – £10 off a bottle of Moet & Chandon Imperial to accompany their A La Carte menu.
If your mum enjoys a glass of wine or two, where better to go than HonkyTonk Wine Library? With a vast array of wines from all over the world, you’ll be spoilt for choice. This wine lounge also serves fresh deli food, has an outside heated snug and is another restaurant with a breath-taking view of the marina. Also, if there’s a particular wine your mum takes a shine to, you can purchase it and take it home as a Mother’s Day gift.
If the sun decides to come out in Plymouth on March 31st, then the harbour is the perfect place to enjoy a spring walk and maybe some alfresco dining. There are ample options to choose from when looking for an outdoor eatery.
The Greek has recently-reopened after its winter break, offering authentic Greek inspired wraps, salads and flat breads.
Fusion Cuisine offers Caribbean-style foods using locally sourced ingredients.
Alfresco! Is the iconic Italian-style outdoor café, based in a converted tram at Quay Point. It offers a great variety of pastries, sandwiches a hot or soft drinks.
For mothers who love a well-prepared fish dish, Sutton Harbour is the place to go for seafood with a sea view.
Suphas Street Food Emporium is located at East Quay House and serves a boat load of seafood dishes, as well as vegetarian options. Whether you’re looking for a small meal or decide to go large, Suphas has a variety of menu options and affordable prices.
Neighbouring the National Marine Aquarium, Rockfish serves scrumptious seafood to eat in or takeaway. This restaurant offers a gluten free menu as well as special deals including, bring your own wine on a Wednesday evening, Tuesday Student Night and their Fish Friday takeaway deal.
