Not only is spring a beautiful time of year, but for us Brits, it means warmer days are on their way. We were lucky enough to have summer-like weather over the Easter weekend, which meant huge crowds flocking to Sutton Harbour and the Barbican to enjoy some well-deserved days out in the sunshine – something we’ve all been waiting to do for months.
This month we have not one but two Bank Holiday weekends, and what better way to spend our extra days off than enjoying the beautiful waterfront of Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City?
Sutton Harbour and the Barbican provide the perfect spot for everyone to enjoy a relaxing drink or a delicious meal, with stunning views of the marina as a given. The harbour is bursting with restaurants, pubs, bars and cafes all ready to welcome visitors looking for a Bank Holiday treat.
HonkyTonk has an extensive assortment of wines on the menu and delicious deli food available. Wine is not the only beverage on offer however, with gin, rum and a variety of beers and ciders also on the menu, along with a selection of soft drinks. HonkyTonk also has a breath-taking view of Sutton Harbour Marina, which you can enjoy sitting in their outdoor snug area.
Since opening, Daisy’s Tea Rooms has become increasingly popular among locals, offering homemade cakes and bakes, build your own afternoon teas and sought-after Sunday roasts. Owners Carl and Jackie constantly celebrate their customers, regularly posting messages of thanks on their Facebook page.
The Stable is not only renowned for its mouth-watering pizzas and craft cider, but also for its superb view of Sutton Harbour. Located on Little Vauxhall Street, The Stable offers over 80 varieties of cider, with regular tasting events available, and locally sourced topping for their sourdough pizzas. With a menu as impressive as The Stable’s, and a view so spectacular, it’s no wonder people fight for a seat at this restaurant.
Across the marina, Miller and Carter Steak House also boasts a spectacular view of the harbour. This popular restaurant offers a variety of menu choices and prides itself on the hand-cut 30-day aged British and Irish Steaks on offer. Miller and Carter provide a gluten free menu too, and is the place to go for a romantic meal for two, with their special ‘Dates and Steaks’ Night deal.
If you’re looking for a pint at the pub, then you’ll be spoilt for choice in Sutton Harbour. With haunts including The Ship Inn, Admiral MacBride, the Crown and Anchor and The Three Crowns, you could easily accomplish a mini pub crawl along the waterfront. Tuck into traditional pub grub, a wide selection of beverages and enjoy some live music too while you enjoy a Bank Holiday tipple.
If two Bank Holiday weekends weren’t exciting enough, Plymouth Pirate Weekend has returned for another year. This major event is taking place in Sutton Harbour, the Barbican and West Hoe Park on 11th and 12th May. Designed by the Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, this free award-winning event is guaranteed fun for the whole family, with a huge variety of attractions and activities.
Sutton Harbour Group is delighted to be a sponsor for the event, which is set to be full of swashbuckling fun.
